I am aware of that Deleuze quote and its a dandy. These beats in a way remind me of a Dylan song called "pawns in their game'' or something similar. They are an enigma to me, but then I have not been there, or in their shoes, so its not valid to judge. Blessed is the land and the kingdom. Blessed is the man whose soul belongs to. Blessed are the meth drinkers, Pot sellers, Illusion dwellers. O Lord, Why have you forsaken me? My words trickle down, like a wound That I have no intention to heal. just give me some truth. Wide eyed Kerouac is so difficult for me. It's like he is half the problem. On the other hand..... i guess he packed some in Except for me and my monkey But Dave Vineberg you'd hardly know he was there Even his icon's eye can seem to slip out of view, then again "A painting is done at close range, even if it is seen from a distance" - Deleuze & Guattari beatitude. blessed are the brand stumpers the adjuvant pumps of dope.

Its hard to catch everything in a blog, especially to understand the nuances when I'm not from that era. However, this particular subject matter keeps recurring almost intentionally, by accident so its not the last time Kerouac will be tagged. I am not French, but live in Quebec and his origins here are of interest. His French interviews on Radio-Canada seem more relaxed and informal. Its odd he never wrote in French. The impact would have been tremendous. John Steinbeck wrote a travelogue on a trip he took to the Soviet Union with Robert Capa in the late 40's and I wondered if Kerouac had read it. I particularly appreciated the long Kerouac quote on the Beat Generation which I hadn't read in full before. Your quotes and clips on this page succinctly sum up Beat, I think. Plus some of your own words in there. The spectrum from Beat.....to.....Beatnik. I've posted a link to this page on my thread. Al of Beat_Happening. Lovely page, Dave.
