Poetic Explorations: Imagination, Identity and Continuity

”Musings” is a Montreal written art blog meriting critical mention due of the quality of the artist’s work  combined with her knack of expressing impressions about visual art with great clarity. Talleen Hacikyan’s Art Blog delivers a variety of literate and informative posts on ”Musings On Art & Writing”. She is a printmaker, illustrator, woodcut artist and fiction writer  of considerable importance and these credentials add substance to her well illustrated columns. Hacikyan possesses a natural curiosity and comprehension for  all visual art. She is a veritable Renaissance woman. Hacikyan is active on the exhibition circuit in her native Quebec and can transmit   observations from both the creator perspective and as appreciator of art.

Talleen Hacikyan’s posts revolve around her artistic themes of continuity, harmony, home experience and human identity.  She appears to have detailed and firsthand knowledge of the  Quebec artist’s featured in her blog. Some are icons of the Quebec art scene from the period of the ”Quiet Revolution” such as Monique Charbonneau. The observations are usually from a close vantage point, the proximity leaving the reader feel they are participants in a tactile activity.

Hacikyan employs some interesting turns of phrase at times such as ”experimental dance while we search for direction” or ”Van Dongen depicts the psychological portrait of a ferocious, futile and factice society”. The observations are often interspersed with many unusual experiences from her travels .There is an impression that each post is a postcard from this observant and astute voyager. Hacikyan deserves praise for creating an appreciation and understanding of printmaking, woodcut prints, linocut, and illustration; visual art forms deserving of more recognition. The following video is of African woodcut art:
