Highway 61 Revisited: Reptiles on the Roadway

A twenty- one year old history major from North Carolina is the creator  of  an original ten foot sculpture from recycled traffic barrels and has earned himself national attention and the moniker , the “Traffic Barrel Monster’‘ after his metal creation. The street artist, Joesph Carnevale, constructed the  hitchhiking statue in 90 minutes using the highway itself as a workshop to cut and screw the final assembly of the metal pieces together.

Carnevale’s main hobby is described as ” guerilla photography” or photos in restricted areas. His 1997 Jetta is covered in hot glued beer bottle caps and he has also made an alligator from appropriated(mis) barrels as well. There appears to be a preference for Reptilian art where the metal serves as scales. The North Carolina State student goes under the psuedonym ”uliveandyouburn” and has also created the ”Boylan Bridge Angry Man”.

Joseph Carnevale: ” I couldn’t get it out of my head. Its that itch, the need to make real an idea that has rolled around in one’s head for days, snowballed itself into a temporary obsession that just had to be satisfied”. Carnevale writes a street culture style blog in the first person vernacular that unfolds like a travelogue . The blog displays some good photographic skills.

Thanks for reading the blog and posting your comment. Due to time considerations, the posts have to be “winged” at times. Becoming Shakespeare is like a work in progress. The blog is starting to walk now and it should go somewhere good over the next twelve months.
      Best,
      Dave
