front cover of slightly used Hackett publishing paperback edition of Bacchae by Euripides (translated with notes by paul woodruff), 1999. i don’t think elvis would have known euripidies if it bit him in the butt.if you look closely, this is elvis’s army enlistment photo. i had the option of removing all the “used book bought cheap” stickers. but i decided t leave them on because it looks so cheezy (i paid 2 bucks for this). i think this thing (judging from the various stickers on it) went through at least 4 professional sales cycles before it landed in my hands. that should tell you something about how important a good package is to the bottom line…. no designer noted. probably some on-staff kid fresh out of design school working for minimum wage. probably took his shot at a high-concept and got away with it. there’s little treasures out there everywhere if you just look hard enough.
