Well, you know it was a product of its times when the lead cover line is “The Compleat Fallout Shelter” (although it was actually a fiction piece about a guy who’d made his shelter the ultimate bachelor pad, and everything that implies). One of the many competitors to Playboy in the 1950s and 1960s, which was not quite the mainstay it was to become years later, and structured similarly, with a focus on celebrity and current fiction—with the naughtier-than-Esquire photo spreads sprinkled in. Indeed, one of the contributing writers was Robert Bloch (Psycho). A sharp, smartly designed magazine as the cover itself attests to.
