you ain’t goin’ nowhere

To exhume or not exhume? This could go on for years. At some point there has to be money changing hands and legal issues of who is the trustee of the Arafat estate and who doles out the lucre to the squeaky wheels. Arafat has always been a complicated figure, a mass of contradictions that could never be transcended or resolved. A figure of idolatry for a people whose faith runs counter to such expressions in the cult of personality. A necessary evil for the West to justify some sort of engagement on the war of terror, yet at the same time, Arafat was a threatening and destructive figure, but one in retrospect who put his own self interests ahead of the people he ostensibly was supposed to represent.

Both a willing dupe for Orientalism, and a useful idiot, but also dubious enough to justify a massive security apparatus to contain the potential danger he could pose. The insidious genius who put suicide bombing bombing and airplanes together. But he remains a champion of the Left, as if he held some secret on the golden ratio, on Pi that justified the chronic blackmail he engaged in. Eight years after his death, due to a cause that may be embarrassing, there is still political mileage to be yanked from Arafat, some excuse for occupying the public stage…

(see link at end)…The widow of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has been questioned by French lawyers investigating his death, it emerged yesterday.

Suha Arafat, who believes her late husband could have been poisoned, was interviewed as a witness in France last month, a source told Agence France-Presse….

—JPost:It is still not clear if other members of Arafat’s family have given their approval for an exhumation and, with time running out, there is widespread skepticism in the West Bank as to whether his body will ever be removed from the mausoleum. Mr Arafat died in France in 2004. At the time, it was reported that he had suffered a stroke, which resulted from a blood disorder.

But a murder investigation was launched earlier this year, after a privately hired Swiss firm found high levels of polonium-210 – a rare and lethal radioactive material – on Mr Arafat’s belongings.

French prosecutors are due to travel to the West Bank in November as part of an attempt to exhume Mr Arafat’s body, which is buried in the presidential complex in Ramallah. Read More:http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/french-prosecutors-question-widow-on-arafat-death-8215761.html

The causes of Arafat’s death have never been determined and neither French nor Palestinian officials have carried out an official investigation. But many Palestinians suspect Israeli involvement in his death.

Arafat’s nephew, Nasser Al Qidwa, yesterday repeated this claim.

He told Agence France-Presse that “there is no longer any doubt&#

; as the “the Al Jazeera documentary confirmed he was poisoned by polonium”.

Mark Regev, a spokesperson for Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, rejected the accusation.

“Israel was not involved in the death of Arafat,” he said. “All the medical files are in the hands of the Palestinians and it was not Israel who is preventing their publication.”

Such files, which are legally controlled by Suha Arafat, have not been made public.

The late Palestinian leader’s wife had prevented an autopsy from being performed before last week’s documentary by Al Jazeera, which has fuelled speculation that Arafat’s death may have been brought about by anything from Aids to food poisoning.Read more: http://www.thenational.ae/news/world/middle-east/palestinians-hold-off-exhuming-arafat#ixzz2Bgiv7bYT

French officials will exhume former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat’s remains next month in a bid to discover if he was murdered.

A team of medical and forensic experts will arrive in the West Bank city of Ramallah on November 24 to carry out the gruesome operation.

The exhumation comes after Arafat’s widow Suha asked judges in France this summer to launch a murder probe into her husband’s death….

Mrs Arafat’s lawyer Pierre-Olivier Sud told the French media: ‘Suha Arafat hopes that the authorities will be able to establish the exact circumstances of her husband’s death and uncover the truth, so that justice can be done.

‘She and her family want the truth and nothing but the truth. There is no question of any ideological or political exploitation.’...The paper quoted one doctor as saying: ‘We also worked on the question of poisoning, using sophisticated techniques, before concluding with a negative.’

(see link at end)…The facts are that Arafat left the stage when he was sick with an illness no one talks about and that he died in a French hospital, far from his nation. All this does not sit well with the national Palestinian ethos. And to add insult to injury, widow Suha publically blamed the PLO’s highest echelons for her husband’s death. Worst of all, she successfully blackmailed them for a huge sum of hush money…. The truth about the circumstances of Arafat’s death are still hidden in the medical records held tightly by widow Suha, who refuses to reveal their contents to this very day. The French hospital has never released the records for publication, due to the widow’s opposition. Suha Arafat knows the truth, and apparently she does not feel comfortable with it.

The Palestinian Authority, PLO and Fatah have announced, over the course of the years, the establishment of at least three commissions of inquiry to investigate the circumstances of Arafat’s death. Yet, not one of these commissions ever published any conclusions or reported getting access to the Rais’medical records from the widow. On the other hand, Ahmad Jibril — head of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and Arafat’s adversary–announced that he heard from the PLO top brass with his own ears that Arafat died of AIDS. Even the intelligence sources in Israel assumed that he died of AIDS or another infectious disease that caused all his bodily systems to collapse.…And now Al-Jazeera has popped up with some investigation about radioactive material that eliminated Arafat. The report does not explain where those contaminated radioactive articles of clothing have been stashed away for the past seven years, after they were separated from their owner. Perhaps the radioactivity mystery will be solved once the investigative reporters figure out where those contaminated items were held, before they reached the Swiss laboratory.Read more: http://www.al-monitor.com/pulse/politics/2012/07/war-over-the-ethos.html#ixzz2BgpkXKaA

…(see link at end)…In August 2002, there were allegations that Arafat’s personal wealth was in the range of USD $1.3 billion. However in 2003, a team of American accountants–hired by Arafat’s own finance ministry claimed that part of the Palestinian leader’s wealth was in a secret portfolio worth close to $1 billion. Although the money came from public funds like Palestinian taxes, virtually none of it was used for the Palestinian people; it was all controlled by Arafat. And none of these dealings were made public. “However an investigation conducted by the General Accounting Office reported that Arafat and the PLO held over $10 billion in assets even at the time when he was publicly claiming bankruptcy.

This was the shameful and disgusting state of affairs in the PA under Arafat who proudly called himself “ I am Palestine”….Meanwhile Arab satellite news channel Al-Jazeera leaks over 1,600 confidential files documenting more than ten years of secret talks between Israel and the Palestinians sent shockwaves all over

Anger brew across the Middle East in response to the documents which alleged deals between the PA and the Israelis over settlements in the disputed territory of East Jerusalem. However the sudden eruption of Arab Uprising turned the world attention from this treachery and saved PA and its elite.
