Today is a look at a really under-the-radar range of products from Koh-I-Noor. Their pencils are solid value, probably because they are made in the Czech Republic and not in Germany as Staedtler does with their signature Mars Lumograph. The quality is very comparable to the better offerings and is about 30-40% cheaper, which makes it a good choice for offices and commericial use, and don’t have to dip into the low style “weeping lotus” type brands from muck-amuck China.

The chalk pencils under the “Gioconda” brand from Koh-I-Noor have a nice velvety texture, a good compromise between the General’s chalk pencil, which is seemingly too hard and brittle but a bestseller nonetheless, and the Carbothello pencils from Stabilo which seem to powdery.
