New arrival: Reeves water soluble wax pastels. Not the highest grade quality in the class. But for student level pricing, and as an introduction to the medium, the Reeves product is certainly a good buy. The pigments are reasonable and the colours blend fairly easily. A little better than what one could term a craft product, but not really a fine art offering. Great price-quality. It’s enjoyable to switch to wet from dry on a whim.
Recommended to use heavier weight paper, such as Strathmore Mix Media which is in the 100 lb. range. If you enjoy wet washes on pastel, drawing weights are probably not absorbent enough.Caran D’Arche is the Cadillac of wax pastels, though the Staedtler product, not demo’d here is excellent as well:
