And to borrow a line from Ron Popeil, “but wait, there’s more!” …..
One good thing about WikiLeaks is that it seems to reinforce what many already knew, had reservations about, or deeply suspected; when it comes to talking the talk and walking the walk, there are some very peculiar couples holding hands down the diplomatic back aisles of world diplomacy where economic, political and military interests are in deep complicity with forces ostensibly opposed to one another. Money does make the world go round’ and maybe the sun, as metaphor for gold and money does orbit around our wheeling and dealing planet. Certainly, WikiLeaks and their latest coup, a staggering batch called the ‘Syria Files’ exposes and reveals how the West and western countries, and the blather about human rights, “say one thing and do another” when it comes fiddling with the Assad regime while the country burns. A fire sale is still a sale.
Some of the e-mails apparently confirm that that Finmeccanica, an Italian defense conglomerate with large interests in the UK, furnished communications equipment and expertise about helicopters to the Assad regime, even after it had engaged rebels in the counter-offensive against the protest movement. The activity clearly has the same stinky odor that SNC Lavalin of Canada sprayed with their close contacts with the Libyan regime even as it was tanking. BTW, Lavalin shares seem to be recovering nicely. Oh yes, those Israeli settlements are THE problem in the Middle East. mmmmm….
According to the British Telegraph, the emails purport to show that Selex Elsag, a subsidiary of Finmeccanica, was selling radio communications equipment worth $50 million to the Syrian police in May of last year, at the same time that the EU had imposed an embargo on the Assad regime which was clearly aimed at prohibiting the export of arms and equipment that used for putting down the insurrection.
and lest we forget… ( see link at end) …Palestinian officials have denied claims that a cement company owned by the family of Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei has been providing materials for the construction of the controversial separation wall.
Israel’s Channel 10 TV reported Tuesday that Al-Quds Cement Company has allegedly been selling concrete to Jewish settlements in the West Bank and materials to help build the West Bank wall, a barrier that will cut some 680,000 Palestinians off from jobs and services. A parliamentary committee has been commissioned with investigating the claims….
…An unnamed Palestinian official said there is “evidence” that the Qurei-owned company was selling cement to Ma’aleh Adumim, one of the largest Jewish settlements in the West Bank, on the outskirts of Jerusalem. He said that Prime Minister Qurei, also known as Abu Ala, transferred ownership of the company to another family member just a few months ago. Abu Ala is currently in Europe and unavailable for comment. Read More:http://www.albawaba.com/business/palestinian-prime-minister-linked-sale-concrete-israeli-separation-wall

“The material is embarrassing to Syria, but it is also embarrassing to Syria’s opponents,” said Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, who is holed up in the Ecuadorean embassy in London seeking political asylum in an attempt to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he has been accused of sexual assault.
“It helps us not merely to criticise one group or another, but to understand their interests, actions and thoughts. It is only through understanding this conflict that we can hope to resolve it.”
The first tranche appeared to show that Finmeccanica, an Italian defence giant with extensive interests in the UK, supplied communications equipment and expertise about helicopters to the Syrian regime, even after it had launched a violent crackdown on peaceful protests that began in March 2011.
